  ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL ACADEMY (OIBA) 2012 SUMMER CAMP  
 

The OIBA is pleased to offer an exclusive Summer Camp scheduled for July and August 2012.
Our program will offer a complete and solid baseball skills program, organized by Damian Blen, a former Coach for the Cuban National Junior Team. Damian will be joined by 3 former Cuban Olympic baseball Players. Antonio Pacheco, Luis Ulacia and Juan Manrique. This highly skilled group of coaches will be bringing baseball to a whole new level !

The Summer Camp will take place at OIBA Baseball Center from 8am (early drop off) to 1:30pm located at18-24 7676 Kimbel St., Mississauga, ON, L5S 1J8

All players and coaches will then be transported by bus to The Powerade Centre located at:

7575 Kenedy Rd. Brampton, ON, LW6 4T2

Antonio Pacheco: Is the all-time Cuban leagues hit leader and was a star performer for the Cuban National Team. From 1983 to 2001, Pacheco hit 400 or better in 11 of his 25 international competitions. He only hit under 300 twice. He was one of five Cuban National Series champions as a player then became a successful manager.

Undoubtedly one of the "Greatest Baseball Players in Cuba", "Captain of Captains". He wore the Cuban National Team uniform in three Olympic Games, Seven World Championships, Four Pan-American Games, Four Central American and Caribbean Games, and Seven Intercontinental Cups. He played in more than twenty national Competitions for the Santiago de Cuba Team in the National Series and for The Orientales and Serranos teams in the Select Series, special short challenges that were held annually to select the national team.
Having played in 22 Cuban Championships, He attained the hit leadership with 2 356 single connections and that of doubles with 366. He is fifth in the rank of scorers, fourth in turns at bat and, third in runs by impulsion and average with 344.
He took part in 1853 Baseball Games, totaling 14 197.2 innings and 8 897 pitches (including 1 140 double plays) making only 2 errors, which granted him a Magnificent lifetime defensive average of 977.
He is the Baseball Player having participated in more top-level international events (25). In most of them he was a key element in the performance of the whole Cuban Team.
He has proven over and over again that he is skilled at achieving a good connection no matter how difficult the pitch and above all he demostrates, he is a consistent batter in the moments when the team needs him most.
His presence in national baseball parks ended in 2002 and together with him other great Cuban players said good-bye to active baseball practice. Such was the case of Luis Ulacia, Orestes Kindelán, Germán Mesa, and Omar Linares. These five legends of Cuban baseball keep active, some as trainers and some as players, in Japanese baseball leagues.

Lázaro Vargas: Was a two-time Olympic infielder who played for 22 seasons in Cuba. He was born on January 18, 1964 in San Miguel del Padrón, played a lifetime with the blue uniform of the Industriales Team.

For over 20 years defended the Industriales team colors. From 1982 to 2003, almost continuously, filled an entire season of baseball capital, and all of them had a fundamental role. He was national champion with the Industriales Team as follow:
XXV National Baseball Series, 1985-1986
XXXI National Baseball Series, 1991-1992
XXXV National Baseball Series, 1995-1996
XLII National Baseball Series , 2002-2003.

Internationally, the best moment was at the meeting of the world in 1988, when he hit the undisputed decided the clash against Team USA. Also in Olympics holds the record for being the first player in the history of the Olympic Games to hit “The Cycle (hit, double, triple and home run) in the same game, in the final for the Gold Medal in Barcelona against Chinese Taipei.

In general, in that event had 38 at-bats at designated hitter, scored 11 runs with 18 hits, for an average of 474, and 12 RBIs in nine games. Four years later in Atlanta in 1996, playing first base, had 35 at-bats, 7 runs scored, 12 hits, 343 on average, 4 RBIs, also in nine games.

Being a member of Team Cuba several time he received proposals to leave the Cuban Team to play in MLB, the last offer was at the end of The Barcelona Olympics, when he rejected a proposal of 18.5 million.
At the present Lazaro Vargas is the Head Coach of the Industriales Team for the Cuban National Baseball Series

Luis Ulacia Alvarez. Baseball sports glory, Participated in four World Baseball Championship, four World Cups, three Olympic Games, four Pan American Games and two Central American and Caribbean Games.
In Olympic Games he won two Gold Medals and one Silver Medal as one of the most decorated baseball players. The longtime leadoff or #2 man for the Cuban national team, Ulacia was often a very important part of the National team like his harder-hitting teammates Antonio Pacheco, Omar Linares and Orestes Kindelan. He began his career at shortstop but spent the bulk of it in the outfield.
Born in Havana on September 24, 1963. From an early age he moved to Camaguey City.
Never noted for connecting long hits, but his baseball skills and speed help him to being one of the best leadoff hitter in Cuba and the national team.
Very versatile player, he played the outfield and in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where he won the Gold Medal. Ulacia also played SS, 2B
In the World Baseball XXXIV finished as leading hitters and was selected most valuable player.
Luis Ulacia was the Head Coach for the Camaguey Team in the Cuban National Baseball Series.
